Overcoming Obstacles in Vernazza
Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy
This image is especially meaningful to me as it marks my return to travel photography after a challenging recovery from my total knee replacement surgery in November 2024. 12 days after the knee replacement I had a life-threatening staph infection that required revision surgery and hospitalization. I faced numerous complications along the way, including ongoing antibiotics, an immobilization brace, delayed physical therapy and severe adverse reactions to the meds. This photo shows the steep steps of Vernazza’s alleyways. One set is less steep but longer, while the other is quite steep. I managed both, with luggage and heavy camera gear. For those who know me, travel and photography are why I wake up every morning, and it’s wonderful to do what I love again. Photo © copyright by Rich Voninski.
